Name an Ambassador Penguin & Win!” Competition
Promoter: West Coast Wildlife Centre, 31 Cron Street, Franz Josef Glacier, New Zealand
(“the Promoter”).
1. Competition Period
The competition runs from 8 October 2025 to 11:59 pm NZDT on 12 November 2025 (“Competition Period”). Entries received outside this period will not be accepted.
2. Eligibility
Entry is open to all New Zealand residents. Entrants under the age of 18 must have the consent of a parent or legal guardian to participate.
Employees of the West Coast Wildlife Centre, its partners, suppliers, contractors, and their immediate families are not eligible to enter.
3. How to Enter
To enter, participants must:
1. Submit one suggested name for one of the Promoter’s ambassador, Little Blue Penguins (kororā).
2. Provide a brief explanation of why this name is special or meaningful.
Entries can be submitted as directed in participating newspapers or online at www.wildkiwi.co.nz/name-the-penguin.
Only one entry per person is permitted. Duplicate entries will be disqualified. By entering, participants confirm that their entry is their own original work and does not infringe the rights of any third party.
4. Selection of Winner
All valid entries received during the Competition Period will be reviewed by a judging panel appointed by the Promoter.
The panel will select one winner based on originality, creativity, and the story behind the name.
The judges’ decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
5. Prize
The winner will receive the following prize package: Family Pass to the West Coast Wildlife Centre (2 adults + up to 3 children under 15).
VIP Backstage Pass Tour with one of the centre’s Wildlife Rangers.
Lunch and Drinks at Café Wild valued up to NZD $100.
Little Blue Penguin Toy from the retail store.
The winning penguin name will be officially given to one of the ambassador Little Blue Penguins at the West Coast Wildlife Centre.
The prize is not transferable, non-refundable, and cannot be exchanged for cash or other products/services.
If the winner is under 18, the prize must be accepted by their parent or guardian on their behalf.
The Promoter reserves the right to substitute the prize (or any part of it) for a prize of equal or greater value if required.
6. Notification of Winner
The winner will be contacted by phone or email within 7 working days of the competition closing date.
If the winner cannot be reached within 14 days, the Promoter reserves the right to select an alternative winner.
7. Use of Entries & Publicity
By entering the competition, participants grant the Promoter a perpetual, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to use, reproduce, publish, and display their submitted name, the story behind it, and their first name, surname initial, and town/city for publicity, marketing, promotional, and educational purposes in any media worldwide, without compensation.
Entrants acknowledge that the Promoter may, at its discretion, modify or slightly adapt the chosen name for suitability without altering its original intent.
The winner agrees to participate in reasonable publicity activities related to the competition if requested.
8. Privacy
Personal information collected will be used solely for the purpose of administering the competition and awarding the prize.
The Promoter will handle all personal data in accordance with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
Personal details will not be shared with third parties without the entrant’s consent, except where required by law.
9. Liability
The Promoter accepts no responsibility for entries that are late, lost, misdirected, incomplete, or corrupted.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Promoter is not liable for any loss, damage,
or injury (including indirect or consequential loss) suffered as a result of entering the competition, accepting the prize, or participating in any related activity.
10. Cancellation or Modification
The Promoter reserves the right to cancel, terminate, suspend, or modify the competition or its terms and conditions at any time if circumstances arise beyond its reasonable control.
If the competition is cancelled, the Promoter is not obliged to award any prize.
11. Governing Law
These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of New Zealand, and entrants submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
